It might not alway be necessary to spend a few thousand dollars on a cat when there are millions(?) of cats everyday that are put to death because no one will give them a home. Don't think Sphynx aren't in the shelters either - many people think they're down-right ugly and will not think about getting one. Give your local shelter a call and see what they have today!
